This fund is set to support AI startups through its AIM-X accelerator located in Saudi Arabia and aims to invest in promising AI ventures globally.
The Rise of AI Startups
The establishment of this fund reflects the growing interest in generative AI and the increasing number of startups entering the AI space. Investors are on the lookout for the next big AI breakthrough, similar to OpenAI, and this trend is expanding beyond the traditional Silicon Valley.
AIM-X Accelerator and Global Expansion
Launched earlier this year, AIM-X is part of a national initiative in Saudi Arabia aimed at enhancing AI technology over the next five years. According to a recent report, there are now over 210 AI unicorns globally, with the U.S. leading the way in AI startup creation from 2013 to 2022.
Fund Allocation and Investment Strategy
35% of the AIM AI Fund will be allocated to accelerator participants, while 65% will focus on Series A and Series B investments beyond Saudi Arabia. Bernard Moon, co-founder and CEO of SparkLabs, indicated that the majority of investments will target top AI startups, primarily in the U.S. The average investment for accelerator participants will be around $200,000, with potential increases up to $500,000 in special cases.
