Tailor, a groundbreaking enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform based in San Francisco and Tokyo, has successfully secured $22 million in Series A funding. This round saw participation from notable investors including ANRI, JIC Venture Growth Investments (JIA VGI), New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Spiral Capital, and Y Combinator.

Breaking the Mold with Headless ERP

Unlike traditional ERP systems that bundle the front end and back end into a single, often inflexible interface, Tailor introduces a 'headless' approach. This innovative model separates the user interface from the ERP core, offering unparalleled customization and flexibility. Yo Shibata, Tailor's co-founder and CEO, highlights how this allows businesses to independently select or develop their front end while the back end efficiently manages critical functions like inventory and accounting.

Omakase: A Leap Towards Automation

At the heart of Tailor's offering is Omakase, its headless ERP system. Omakase enables AI agents to securely access the ERP system via API, automating tasks such as summarizing customer histories or triggering workflows. This positions Tailor uniquely against giants like SAP and Oracle, as well as niche vertical SaaS tools.

Tailor's Vision: Modular and Programmable ERP

"The future of ERP is modular, programmable, and built for seamless human-machine collaboration," asserts Shibata. Tailor's solution, initially targeting the retail and e-commerce sectors for their dynamic challenges, is now attracting interest from B2B companies, drawn by its ability to handle complex operations like future and advanced orders.

Growth and Expansion

Founded in 2021 by Shibata and CTO Misato Takahashi, Tailor has grown from 10 to 50 employees across Japan, the U.S., and other countries. The fresh funding will fuel U.S. expansion, product development, and scaling operations in Japan, with a focus on enhancing ERP modules and AI capabilities.

Tailor's approach mirrors the flexibility of platforms like Shopify, offering businesses the choice between a full-stack ERP or a customizable back end. This adaptability, combined with a strong market traction in Japan, sets the stage for Tailor's ambitious growth trajectory.
